I’m the President and Founder of Mogul Productions. I’ve been an avid film financier and blockchain investor for years.
Finally, two years ago we saw the problem that film financing and investing was just so difficult! It lacked transparency, efficiency, and standardization.
So that’s why we started Mogul – with the mission to make film financing more inclusive, global, and transparent using blockchain technology and smart contracts.
Mogul is a DeFi and NFT platform for movies. It’s an exciting time for us right now because in the next month we’ll be looking to finance our first movie with the Mogul community and tomorrow we’re also doing our first ever NFT drop!

The difference between the movies on there now and the ones that will be going on is that the next 3 will be ready to shoot their film as soon as they’re voted on by the Mogul community. Plus they have some big A-List names in the films that our community will recognize.
The producers of these films are also fully aligned to provide experiences and benefits to STARS holders throughout the entire production. That’s really important for us in choosing partners

Tomorrow we also have our first ever NFT drop, where Marvel and DC Comics artist Rob Prior is becoming the first artist ever to create a piece of artwork and burn it themselves for the sole purpose of it living only as an NFT.
The video of him painting the NFT will be embedded into the metadata of the NFT, and you;ll see him burn the painting live on camera during the event. It’s the first time ever that a painting will be provably verified to only have one copy – and that’s on the blockchain

The story of Mogul really starts when our team heard the story of Deadpool in 2016 and that’s when we originally wrote the first Mogul whitepaper. Then we started development in 2018.
I had invested in movies before at the script level and it was a really poor experience. No updates were given, the financial terms of the investment were archaic, the first money into the project often got the worst deal, and there was no standardization.
One of the projects we invested in had a great experience engaging investors — they gave monthly updates with behind-the-scenes photos, told us who was being considered for casting, talked about business development, asked the investors for help and access to specific people in their networks, etc. As an investor or supporter, that’s exactly what you want to see! Transparency and good communication! And to feel like you have inside access to the project
That movie, which was called Bonded, grew a big and dedicated community that made the film very successful during a pre-production phase. This is we’re doing now with Mogul, but on another level with 100x the amount of engagement. And… as I said above, we’ve just announced that Bonded will now be part of the Mogul community and offering benefits and rewards for all STARS holders as they distribute the movie.
Deadpool was originally the inspiration to write the whitepaper; I’m sure many of you have heard of the film. With Deadpool, the movie was shelved for 8 years by the studio because they didn’t want to produce it based on the vision of the people involved. The film only came to be because a proof-of-concept trailer was leaked (“by accident”) by Ryan Reynolds. When the trailer was leaked on YouTube, it went viral and millions of fans demanded that Deadpool got made because they were so passionate and they loved the trailer.
Since then, Deadpool has become the highest-grossing R-rated franchise in movie history; and it never would have been made without the Fans.
Our advisor Cindy Cowan was really close to the original Deadpool team when this was happening and tells the story so well!
In regard to team members, our team is incredibly well connected. Cindy Cowan is a 4x Oscar-winning producer and won an Emmy just last year. Our team has a blend of financiers and filmmakers that make it the perfect blend. Very few groups understand finance and movies at the same level. Paul Sparkes on our team founded Difference Capital, which was recently acquired by Mogo and they’re now making big moves in blockchain as well.

In terms of the target market for movies, right now the expertise of our team is to focus on English language movies from Hollywood but we really want to add expertise to move into Bollywood and China eventually because these are huge markets and more importantly we have vibrant communities and ambassadors in each country
Piers Tempest on our team as well has a bunch of movies on Netflix you’d recognize. Love, Wedding, Repeat for example as one of the top watched movies on Netflix in 2020. David Cormican did the first-ever Netflix original deal with Netflix from Canada

I think that’s something that really differentiates Mogul from competitors – our team has the connections in Hollywood to make Mogul a success, and they’ve all bought into the Mogul vision for STARS holders and building community. Right now Hollywood is all about “who you know”. It’s hard to break into and there are a few people who make the majority of the decisions. We have calls every day with well-known, famous producers and decision-makers in the industry educating them about Mogul and what we’re doing and we’re lucky to be within arm’s length to speak with them.
Soon our community will be able to see the amount of business development that’s happening behind the scenes. So excited for what’s to come for Mogul and especially for STARS tokens as we strive to become the de facto place where Hollywood meets blockchain.
i.e. if you want to do a movie, you want to do it with Mogul because of the fan experience and audience you can create through our launchpad with STARS tokens. it’s the new wave of filmmaking and people are catching on

Nowadays there are many projects that not only offer NTF Collections to generate income, but also seek to support charitable causes of different indoles, so, have you thought about implementing a support system, do you consider this is an important issue that should be addressed in your project, if so, what would you like to focus on?
Lisa Sun:
It’s interesting you bring that up. Jon Karas from Akoin (Akon’s cryptocurrency) was just talking to us the other day about potentially working with Akon’s charitable causes to benefit STARS holders and offer experiences. He’s specifically opening a hospital in Kenya.
Doing good for the world is definitely high up on our list! When we are evaluating the scripts we receive, we also look for stories that are meaningful and change the viewer’s perspective after watching the film.
With Bonded, for example, it’s a deep story that the director Mo is extremely passionate about. It’s to shed light on the Mexican/USA border issues of slavery and the film is incredibly moving.
Our film team is creative at heart and when you can combine creativity and stories that change and move people through film I think that’s incredibly exciting

We’re always taking ideas from our community. I’m so proud of them! Whether it’s influencers we can reach out to, to what movies we want to finance (they vote with their STARS tokens), and which NFTs they want us to make there are many ways to get involved.
We actually just launched one of the world’s largest NFT contests with famous artist Rob Prior. All of our early community members get the first pieces of the NFT, and if you collect a certain amount, you get a part in a movie or $1 million.

With this contest, our community was able to vote on EXACTLY what they wanted Rob Prior to paint. They got to send suggestions and then vote on the outcome and actually watch him paint the NFT live on his Instagram show last week. And tomorrow at our Proof of Origin event he will be unveiling the final NFT that everyone will get for the contest

I see Mogul Access Pass on the Web, can you tell me: what is the Mogul Access Pass, and what is the benefit that the user owns Access Pass? And why does Mogul Access Pass need to be divided into 4 levels including: ALL, VIP, Backstage, Red Carpet? What is the difference between these 4 levels?
Lisa Sun:
We distributed STARS tokens through our Access Pass sale, where users were purchasing varying levels of rare NFTs for exclusive access to experiences and rewards related to Mogul movies. We also recently announced a partnership with NFTY where we will have token-gated communities where NFT holders will be able to access certain chats with the Mogul team and famous individuals from Hollywood through their NFT access.
So, right now, Access Passes are not being sold, unless they are resold from someone who already owns one 🙂
Access Passes are NFTs that give you the ability to be part of behind-the-scenes, bespoke experiences related to Mogul. A benefit that has already occurred for these users is that they all are getting the first copies of the NFT that I shared above from Rob Prior!
In the future, we want to offer things like producing credits, tickets to wrap-up parties, red carpet event opportunities, visiting the movie sets, chatting with the actors/actresses, and more.
Right now, as a film financier, there are so many intangible benefits that you get… But investing in movies (especially good ones) is so selective. So we’re passing those benefits that many people will never get to experience onto Access Pass holders

Mogul Quadratic Voting was created to encourage users to vote on films and governance proposals fairly. To cast votes, users must stake tokens. What does the Mongul team have in place to guard against undue influence from large token holders? Do you have any kind of rewards program to participate in the film industry program?
Lisa Sun:
So quadratic voting was made exactly for that reason – to make sure thart every user has a say in the voting process – not just large holders. Vitalik has written a lot about the benefits of quadratic voting:
Our voting is quite unique, as it’s a staking program coupled with quadratic voting. Users who vote earn STARS the same way as they would through farming for voting on the movie they want to get made.
Votes are counted using a quadratic formula, so if you have 90k tokens you’d get 300 votes, but if you have only 900 tokens, you get 30 votes. So proportionally, the users with fewer tokens (the masses and the power of the crowd) actually have a larger influencer on the vote versus the large holders.
The reason we designed it this way is because we want the voting to be representative of the power of the crowd; not just the power of a few token holders! We want to make movies that the fans want to see

When will this movie be premiere?

Yeah! Here’s the announcement here:
Bonded is currently in post-production. They’re working on experiences and rewards right now that they will be offering STARS holders once the film is being distributed. Their plan right now is to premiere at a film festival and then hopefully distribute to one of the major streamers. No big news yet, but stay tuned 😉

Growth farming and voting are both forms of staking. You stake your tokens and can earn more through each program.

That’s why we have partnered with Polygon and Biconomy and built our own smart wallet that will be launching soon. Setting up a wallet is hard for people. And paying for transactions on blockchain adds friction. And, your average film lover isnt a blockchain expert, so we did a lot of research into building the ideal product to attract these users

The STARS token is an ERC20 token. With the high levels of gas fees required for each transaction, don’t you think it’s a little inconvenient for users to operate with an ERC20 token, considering that $STARS is used for several things within your platform? Have you thought about integrating other blockchains?

We do. That’s why we’re prioritizing Layer 2 development on Polygon as a next step of our roadmap for free and gasless transactions for our users

We’re here for the long term. Our team has been making movies for over 20-30 years in some cases. This isn’t a short term project; we’re here for the long term.

It’s at the level for sure. It’s undergone extensive testing and auditing and is very safe. All audits will be published and extensive user testing will be done
Part 3 – Quiz about project
In the final part, we tested the knowledge in terms of the Mogul project. They’ve prepared 4 questions for this part, so everyone could be a part and answer. Participants had 10 minutes to answer. 300$ was distributed between the winners.
